Successful data migration from Oracle EBS to Microsoft Dynamics

99% data transmission accuracy

3x faster validation process

Technical wholesaler Lasaulec has over 500,000 items in their range with which they supply the industrial market with MRO items from eight locations across the Netherlands. In this, their ERP platform forms the backbone of their operations. To make the switch from Oracle EBS to Microsoft Dynamics, we took care of the data migration. By performing a quick and accurate migration without any problems, Lasaulec was able to continue its business operations unhindered.

Challenge

Lasaulec uses their ERP for financial and logistics operations such as purchasing, order processing and distribution. With the transition of ERP platform, it is important to make the full dataset of suppliers, customers and items available from Oracle in Dynamics. With the platform being the core of all processes involved in purchasing and sales, downtime means that business operations would be at a standstill. The decision was made to continue business operations in Oracle EBS, which created the challenge of performing the migration quickly and accurately to minimise the differences in the dataset from the old and new ERP platform.

"The quality shown by Enshore is really of a high standard. The migration was fast, careful and we were well advised. The contact with our consultants is so direct and personal that it almost feels like working with an in-house team. It feels good to be able to rely on a partner like this."
- Ramon Roskam | Head of ICT Lasaulec

Approach

Our years of experience with Oracle EBS and the ERP setup at Lasaulec, enabled us to make a good mapping from the old platform to the new one. All business processes were transferred, tested and, where possible, immediate improvements were made. For instance, customisation made in Oracle were converted to standard functionality in MS D365 to simplify the management of business processes in Dynamics.

By transforming and extracting the Oracle data with SQL, we were able to get the data quality to the maximum level much faster. Validating and correcting anomalies in the dataset is much more efficient with queries than performing the operations in Excel. This makes the validation process up to 3x faster which in turn has allowed us to correct many anomalies and achieve 99% accuracy.

Lasaulec's business operations could be continued by keeping Oracle EBS live during the migration. In this, the duration of the migration is of great importance because a fast migration ensures fewer differences between the old and new ERP platform. Since errors cause delays, it was so important to maximise that accuracy. A lot of testing ensured that the migration could be completed within the agreed deadline. Whereas in the initial calculation, the migration was supposed to take two weeks, this was reduced to one week, in which most of the entities were transferred on the first day.

"You work towards this moment for a year. Then it's so nice to see it come together as we've figured out!"
- Bas Vrielink | ERP consultant

Result

Migration optimisation and testing resulted in a fast migration and an accuracy of 99%. This kept Lasaulec's operation up-and-running during the migration. But Lasaulec also benefited immediately after. The high accuracy ensured that very few differences needed to be updated manually. "The quality shown by Enshore is really of a high standard. The migration was quick, careful and we were well advised. The contact with our consultants is so direct and personal that it almost feels like working with an in-house team. It feels good to be able to rely on a partner like this." - Ramon Roskam | Head of ICT Lasaulec

Reuse migration model for BI
To create future BI analyses, data from Oracle EBS and MS D365 will be housed in a data warehouse. To create insights with data from both ERP platforms, the same data model used during migration is deployed. We will tell more about this in a new case soon!
